These days, there are even more options when it comes to furthering your education. Do you attend a community college, a university or do you complete an online virtual college course? What method of furthering your education will be most suited for you? I created this blog as I worked with my daughter to find the best way for her to obtain the degree that she wanted. We searched, interviewed and dug into all of the different methods of further education and have included it right here for you. Hopefully, the days and weeks that we spent researching will help you as much as it helped my daughter.

3 Steps To Becoming An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

If you enjoy helping others and love working in the medical field, you may want to become an emergency medical technician (EMT). This will give you an opportunity to work caring for people that are dealing with a situation of urgency, such as being involved in a car crash, suffering a heart attack and many others. However, you will need to receive specific training to be capable of doing so. By knowing the steps you need to take to obtain this position, you will be better prepared for doing so.

Step #1: Have a high school diploma

The first thing you will need to do is graduate from the high school in your area and receive a diploma showing that you have completed all 12 years of this part of your education. If you failed to do this, then you can obtain a GED that will be accepted, as well.

You will additionally need to provide a copy of either the items listed above or a transcript that will record your grades.

Step #2: Complete a training course

There are many things that you must learn if you want to assist others with medical problems. You will need to enroll in online or offline college in your area to get the EMT training that you will need to succeed.

Listed below are some of the medical skills you'll need:

  1. CPR – Being able to perform CPR on a patient that needs it may save a life.
  2. Child birthing - It's important to be able to assist a pregnant woman giving birth.
  3. Deliver oxygen – Providing respiratory support when necessary.
  4. Weather exposure – Knowing how to deal with heat or cold over exposure.
  5. Transferring- Being aware of the protocol required to get an individual to a medical facility.

You will need to take 192-course hours to become a certified EMT. Most colleges will allow you to take day or evening classes for your convenience.

Step #3: Obtain a license

Once you've completed the EMT course training, you will need to get a license that allows you to be an EMT in your state. There are varying requirements for each state. Additionally, you may need to have your license updated periodically.
